Sustainability West Midlands (SWM) is the sustainability advisor for the leaders of the West Midlands. It is not for profit and works with members in business, public and voluntary sector advising, developing solutions, bringing about change, and sharing successes. We were delighted to hear recently that the board has approved our application, and we have been invited to become a member.
Our close work with local and central government and publicly funded organisations to support their sustainability agenda is integral to our offer to SWM and its members. For decades, through our research and evaluation, we have supported important work undertaken by organisations such as Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), Energy Saving Trust, Defra and BEIS. As evaluators, we understand how to find out what works, for who, and under what circumstances.
In addition, our online business benchmarking and diagnostic tools have been adopted in the UK and internationally by organisations including the Global Benchmarking Network, Fraunhofer IPK in Germany and the Australian Government. They have played an important role in driving sustainable business performance by facilitating triple bottom assessments (financial, environmental and social). The tools have also led to reduction in the consumption of energy and water, as well as assisting with the reduction of waste.
Michelle Hollier, Director of Research and Evaluation said “Our membership demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and to join SWM working towards a more sustainable West Midlands; we are looking forward to contributing to the local debate”.
