A unique pioneering scheme to find 200 of the next generation of the midlands business leaders and entrepreneurs has been launched.
great200leadersis a personal performance and business growth scheme, which has been created by Birmingham City Council as part of the Business Development Programme and being delivered by Winning Moves Limited.
The scheme is aimed at 200 ambitious business owners and directors and is targeted at individuals and companies in the greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP area.
great200leaders will offer 200 business owners or managers to work in one of three working groups, with more than 100 hours of support through a coaching and mentoring programme delivered over 12 months through ten peer group workshops . The scheme is part funded by ERDF, and each participant has to contribute one third of the cost, which is £2,000 (plus vat).
The initiative is part of the Business Development Programme (BDP), which is administered by Birmingham City Council and the GBS LEP and designed to help more than 400 qualifying existing small and medium-sized businesses implement their growth and expansion plans.
Ian McLaughlan, from Winning Moves, a business improvement consultancy who is managing the delivery of the scheme on behalf of Birmingham City Council, said great200leaders offers people a chance to transform their leadership skills and learn from like-minded peers whilst increasing profitability and productivity for their business.
He said: “Birmingham and the Midlands has a fantastic heritage as the nation’s engine of business and leadership, embodied by people like George Cadbury, Joseph Chamberlain and Sir Anthony Bamford. great200leaders builds on that legacy by looking for the next generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders aiming to grow their business and the economy in the Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP area. For business owners or directors looking to go from good to great, this 12 month programme of inspirational speakers, first class coaching and high calibre peer group events is a must.”
The Business Development Programme not only provides coaching and mentoring to existing SMEs, but financial assistance is also available to qualifying businesses. The programme has provided more than £0.3 million in grant funding to 21 businesses – stimulating total investment of some £0.6 million and helping create or safeguard 135 jobs. BDP has received £3.9 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and is available to businesses throughout the GBS LEP area which includes Birmingham, Bromsgrove, Cannock Chase, East Staffordshire, Lichfield, Redditch, Solihull, Tamworth and Wyre Forest.
The scheme is aimed at giving a financial helping hand to existing SMEs to implement growth and expansion plans.
